GSoC Participants Announced!

We can now announce the participants in the STE||AR Group’s 2014 Google Summer of Code!  These recipients represent only a handful of the many excellent proposals that we had to choose from.  For those unfamiliar with the program, the Google Summer of Code brings together ambitious students from around the world with open source developers by giving each mentoring organization funds to hire a set number of participants. Students then write proposals, which they submit to a mentoring organization, in hopes of having their work funded. 

Below are the students who will be working with the STE||AR Group this summer listed with their mentors and their proposal abstract:

Proposal Abstract:

Graph500 is the benchmark used to model important factors of many modern parallel analytical workloads. The current Graph500 benchmarks are implemented using OpenMP and MPI. Porting Graph500 to HPX, which is well suited for the fine-grain and irregular workloads of graph applications, requires replacing the inherent barrier synchronization with asynchronous communications of HPX.

 Proposal Abstract:

Thrust is the library for parallel algorithm and Data structure. Thrust provide the STL like API for GPU programming that helps programmer to develop the high performance application which exploit parallelism with minimum programmer effort. Thrust use the CUDA for NVDIA GPU and TBB or OpenMP for multi-core CPU as backend but there is no backend implemented in HPX for thrust. These project is intended to implement the backend for thrust in HPX.

Proposal Abstract:

I’m planing to extend the functionality of the LibGeoDecomp to handle irregular grids and graphs. Therefor I want to implement a new unstructured grid class derived from the BaseGrid. To save the adjacent information I want to introduce a sparse Matrix container based on the SELL-C-σ format for efficient access and memory usage on SIMD units.
